Is This Really Naples Florida?
Last year when celebrating a birthday with local German friends, I raved over the scrumptious birthday cakes which they had ordered from an authentic French bakery on the East Trail. Ever since, when I am in that area and go past St. Andrews Square, I cannot resist the temptation of stopping by the French Bread Oven for one of their delicious tarts! The aroma of freshly baked breads and baguettes is enticing, while the eclairs and petits fours are special treats.

The other day when stopping at the French Bread Oven, I took a few moments to explore La Sorpresa Latina Market in the same strip mall at 8793 Tamiami Trail East. The experience transported me back to my years in Latin America! I could easily have been in any of a number of Latin American countries, discovering a wide array of Goya products, corn meal, corn husks, arepa masa, a variety of legumes, Bimbo Pan Tostado, chicarrones (pork skins), and many aromatic spices. This slice of Latin culture, nestled near the French bakery and across from an Italian-Vietnamese restaurant spoke volumes about the process of globalization!

Last, but not least, I discovered in the same shopping area, the Eurasia Restaurant, which I plan to try someday. The reviews tout its Northern Italian and Vietnamese cuisine as authentic and very good. (239) Eurasia Restaurant: 352-0888
Needless to say, I found most interesting the unique ethnic diversity found in this one little corner of Naples. The more I explore my own city, the more I come to discover a wealth of wonderful little establishments such as these.
