Naples' Season in Full Swing
The "season" in Naples is in full swing! Despite the economic slowdown, the "snowbirds" have returned to Southwest Florida. Many are seasonal residents who spend the first three months of the year in "Paradise" to escape the brutal winter in the North. Others are official Florida residents sometimes called "splitters" because they split their time between two homes. If they live here at least six months and a day, residents are eligible to become "homesteaded" which offers a number of tax benefits.
Shops, restaurants and movies are busier than ever. (Tonight - Friday - there were long lines at the cinema 25 minutes before the show, and the wait time at P.F. Chang's was an hour.) Large numbers of people are attending Sunday open houses, believing that "this is the year" to take advantage of adjusted home prices.
One topic of conversation on which everyone agrees: This is the place to be when the weatherman speaks of ice, snow, and Nor' easters!
