Newt Gingrich in Naples
Each year I look forward to attending the Naples Town Hall Lecture Series, a forum that features some of the foremost international speakers. We were told that this evening broke all attendance records with a packed auditorium of over 1200 people who were there to hear Newt Gingrich.
A surprise addition to the program was the introduction of the Speaker by his longtime friend, Neil Boortz, renowned radio talk show host and author of a number of New York Times #1 Best Selling Books.
Speaker Gingrich spoke for over an hour without using a note. His message was one of hope: The Future is Bright: The Next Wave of American Exceptionalism. As a historian, Gingrich referred to the rights granted to us by our Constitution: the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. He explained that "happiness" was meant in the sense of the Scottish interpretation as "wisdom and virtue," but that government is beholden to the people. He believes that we Americans are "very different from those who chose to stay behind in Europe." He defines "American exceptionalism" as our "constant energy, persistence, and the courage to dream."
He enumerated on a number of his 12 American Solutions for Jobs and Prosperity: to counteract big government: middle income tax relief; a "0" capital gains tax; a reduction in the business tax rate; a tax credit for small business; and a program to end massive fraud and theft on the county, state, and federal levels. He stated that "we need a tri-partisan reform system based on honesty, transparency, and accountability." He concluded by affirming that "American people are bigger than our government. We must liberate people to work hard, invest, and create." www.AmericanSolutions.com
