Swamp Buggy Races in Naples

Would you like to experience a colorful local tradition that dates back to the early 1940's when Naples was a sleepy fishing village?  To attend the Swamp Buggy Races is to experience a piece of backwoods' culture that grew into a unique motor sport.

The "muddy madness" reportedly began in 1943 when local hunters gathered to celebrate the beginning of the fall hunting season.  Their odd-looking vehicles with huge tires were designed for the purpose of penetrating the swamplands of the Everglades.

The third and final competition of the 2008-2009 Swamp Buggy Budweiser Cup Series is being held this weekend at the Florida Sports Park.  One favorite contender is Amy Chesser, the first woman to win the "Big Feature" division last year.

If you like adventure and would like to experience a bit of "local color," make it a point to attend the races this weekend!
